What is Traumeel?
Traumeel is a homeopathic, plant-based, anti-inflammatory solution that comes in many forms, including creams and a sterile solution that can be injected intramuscularly at different acupuncture points. It contains thirteen active ingredients, twelve botanical and one mineral. It is very safe to use with virtually no side effects, but it is important to know the ingredients to rule out any allergies you may have. Traumeel contains:
Arnica montana (mountain arnica)
Calendula officinalis (marigold)
Hamamelis virginiana (with hazel)
Millefolium (milfoil)
Belladonna (deadly nightshade)
Aconitum napellus (monkshood)
Chamomilla (chamomile)
Symphytum officinale (comfrey)
Bellis perennis (daisy)
Echinacea angustifolia (narrow-leafed cone flower)
Echinacea purpurea (purple cone flower)
Hypercium performatum (St. John’s wort)
Hepar Sulphuris calcareum (calcium sulfide)
Homeopathic solutions are very, very diluted versions of these botanicals. So even if you see something that may be toxic, the amounts are so miniscule it will not have a toxic effect. Homeopathic solutions work based on the idea that "like cures like." Meaning, if a substance causes a symptom in a healthy person, giving the person a very small amount of the same substance may cure the illness.
How Traumeel Works
When you get injured, the body responds with inflammation. This increases blow flow and protects the area by decreasing mobility in order to help it heal. While this process is necessary, often our bodies overreact and cause excess swelling and heat. Traumeel will stop the overproduction of these inflammatory mediators as well as accelerate the healing process.
Benefits of Traumeel
One of the biggest benefits is that it is much safer than most pain-relieving medications and can be used many times without adverse effects, unlike corticosteroids. There are also no known interactions with other drugs which makes it a great option for those taking other medications.
Side effects are extremely rare, the only thing to be cautious of are of any allergies to the botanical ingredients. We can always do an allergy test before fully injecting the solution. Overall, Traumeel is a safe and effective management for pain and is even approved for children.
Depending on the area of injection, you may feel almost nothing from the injection, or in more sensitive areas like the feet and hands, it can a little painful and sore for a while after. We use a topical analgesic for those areas to reduce discomfort.
How Quickly and For How Long Will I See Results?
You can expect to feel the results within 24 to 48 hours. We recommend getting 2 to 3 injections in a 2 week period and then reassess. Because Traumeel aims to heal the area instead of just blocking pain, you should have long lasting results. How many treatments you will need and how often depends on whether the pain is acute and chronic. Acute pain requires less treatments than chronic pain.
