We have three treatment protocols:

FAQ
Is It Safe?
Acupuncture is very safe when performed by a trained, licensed acupuncturist. The needles are stainless steel, hair-thin, single-use so there is virtually zero chance of infection, bleeding or allergic reaction. There is a chance of some mild bruising, but nothing some concealer can't cover up.
Can Anyone Get Cosmetic Acupuncture?
There are only a few health issues that we don't recommend cosmetic acupuncture for until we resolve those issues, such as bleeding disorders (you will just bruise a lot), migraines, and seizure disorders.
Does it Hurt?
There is a slight pinch in some spots that only lasts a split second and in some others you do not feel a thing. Most people fall asleep during the treatment and leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
For best results, we recommend a series of 10 treatments, coming in twice a week. Everyone is different though, you may need less or more than the 10 treatments. It is then recommended to come in every 1 to 3 months for maintenance.
How Long Do Results Last For?
Most patients have reported results lasting a few years without any maintenance treatments, but returning once signs of aging start happening again for another full series. This is why we recommend maintenance treatments for continued results.
How Much Improvement Will I See?
Each individual will have different results, but most report significant results and that most of their friends, family or coworkers do mention a change in their appearance after the first few treatments. Just don't expect that at 80 you will end up looking like you're 40 again.
What Can I Expect at My First Session?
We will go in detail about your symptoms and health history, followed by a short physical exam to get a clear picture of any underlying health issues affecting your skin. After, you will receive a full acupuncture treatment. I know that it can be a little nerve wrecking not knowing exactly what to expect, so that first session I will talk you through what is going to happen and no surprises. You can expect to walk out feeling relaxed and with more clarity. This session will last between 1.5 to 2 hours.

STEPS THROUGH THE TREATMENT PROCESS
This is the treatment process if you decide to just go the herbal medicine route.

Initial Consultation

Half-hour, free of charge session where we go over your case and goals, the treatment process and answer any questions you may have. This is to make certain treatment meets your expectations and that there is a high probability of success for you. We can also discuss which treatments are best for you.

Detailed Intake & Treatment Plan
At the end of the consultation we will decide if we move forward and schedule your full intake appointment (about 1.5 to 2 hours). This is when we do a detailed assessment of your health and skin in order to treat your body besides the Mei Zen Cosmetic protocol. After, we will continue with your first acupuncture treatment and cosmetic protocol.

Active Treatment & Symptom Reduction
You will then return for twice a week treatments for 5 weeks (a total of 10 treatments). Once the series is over and we feel there is no more room for improvement, we will move on to maintenance. Although rare, if we have not gotten any results in your skin after the first 4 treatments, we will discuss whether to work on just your health and continue later or other alternatives outside my office.

Stabilizing Symptoms & Maintenance
Although, some patients have reported their treatment lasting for years, we recommend coming in for continued maintenance treatment every 1 to 3 months. Other patients have opted to come back for the series after a few years when signs of aging have started again.
