FIVE ELEMENT ACUPUNCTURE FORT LAUDERDALE
Acupuncture Rooted in the Five Elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, & Water
Classical Five Element Acupuncture is based on observations of patterns in nature to understand the cyclical flow of vital energy, also known as Qi (pronounced chee). Each of the five elements – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water – represent the fundamental qualities of all matter in the universe, including living beings. Five Element Acupuncture theory asserts that every person develops an imbalance in the natural functioning of these elements early in life which is the underlying cause of illness. It was developed by J. R. Worsley as a way of adapting Chinese medicine to make it more suitable for Western patients and practitioners. This style of acupuncture places particular emphasis on diagnosing and treating the primary imbalance.

Classical Five Element acupuncture is set apart from other acupuncture systems as its core premise is treating a patient’s Causative Factor (CF): the element among the five that is the source of imbalance. The CF of a patient is determined by assessing sensory information provided by the body, mind, and spirit. Five Element practitioners spend years learning and training to develop their sensory acuity to recognize a patient’s color, sound, odor, and emotion to determine their CF, as well as particular ‘blocks’ to treatment. The practitioner will create individualized treatments based on the patient’s causative factor to treat the root cause of their issue or illness to bring the five elements back in balance and relieve several symptoms of the body, mind, and spirit.
Pure Five Element Acupuncture treatments are quite different to those you may have experienced in the past. Usually, there are fewer acupuncture points chosen and needled to send the body a more robust and direct message where to heal imbalances. Needling acupuncture points may also only be a quick in and out process one at a time, instead of retaining them from an extended period of time.

Treatments will generally include the use of Moxabustion, the use of Artemesia Vulgaris Latiflora, also known as mugwort, which is dried, shaped into tiny cones, and ignited over the skin prior to needling. Patients will feel a warming sensation over the area however moxibustion, or moxa for short, contains regenerative properties that are far deeper than physical warming. The use of moxa helps to warm and move the flow of Qi in the body as well as strengthen the blood. Moxa will feel warm and nourishing, inducing a deeper state of relaxation.

02
Detailed Intake & Treatment Plan
At the end of the consultation we will decide if we move forward and schedule your full intake appointment (1.5 to 2 hours). This is when we do a detailed assessment of your symptom pattern, medical history and a short physical exam to determine the root cause, which allows me to create a specific treatment plan for you. After this assessment, you will have your first treatment.
03
Active Treatment & Symptom Reduction
You will then return for weekly appointments for roughly 2 to 8 weeks to make sure we are getting results as they relate to your medical condition. Once your symptoms have stabilized we move on to the next step. Although rare, if we have not gotten any relief in your symptoms by the fourth or fifth treatment, we will discuss whether to continue moving forward or to recommend other forms of treatment outside my office.
04
Stabilizing Symptoms & Maintenance
This usually occurs between the 6th and 12th treatment. As long as your symptoms do not creep up between treatments, we can space them farther and farther apart. Initially you will come every other week, then once a month and then whenever you feel you need a tune up or if you have another issue arise in the future. Although, many of my patients wish to continue with ongoing maintenance treatments or for general stress relief.
05
Taking Care of Your Friends & Family
Many of my patients are referred to me by past patients who have felt much better after feeling the true healing of acupuncture and who want their loved ones to also benefit from my work. I look forward to helping your friends, family members and coworkers on their journey to a pain-free, more joyful, prosperful life.
