Taquito, the happy, seizure-free chihuahua thanks to Chinese medicine
After moving away from my friends and family in Guatemala to go pursue a degree at University of Florida, I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and mild depression. During my time in college, I was treated with Western pharmaceuticals and cognitive therapy. Although I did receive some relief from my symptoms, it was not until I was treated with acupuncture that I was able to truly heal and felt real relief from my symptoms. It was then that I was able to feel like myself again and be plagued by the many physical and mental discomforts of anxiety. I was also amazed to notice that other health issues had also gone away during that time. My energy was up, I was sleeping better and had good hormonal balance.

I became a true believer of Chinese medicine when I took my Chihuahua, Taquito, to a veterinary acupuncturist for his seizures. He was treated with Chinese herbal medicine and he went from having one or more seizures a month, to maybe one a year. Having felt true, natural healing, I wanted to help others in the same way.

After receiving a Bachelor’s of Science in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology from the University of Florida, I enrolled into Academy for Five Element Acupuncture’s Master of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Certificate programs. Four national board exams later, I received a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), which is the highest certification for an acupuncturist in the United States. I have been in private practice since April 2013 and practicing in Fort Lauderdale since 2015.
