ACUPUNCTURE

Natural, Effective and Side-Effect Free Medicine

Acupuncture uses very thin, single-use, sterile needles to alleviate pain or treat various other conditions. Gently inserting the needles in various points around the body, they stimulate nerves which signal the brain to release biochemicals and hormones that reduce inflammation and stress. They also help improve circulation to the area that needs attention bringing in oxygenated blood to help speed up healing.  All these actions can balance your hormones, brain chemicals and strengthen the immune system to boost your overall health.

It aims to treat the core of the issue and not just the symptom to achieve true healing, allowing long lasting results. Just like exercising, multiple sessions are required to attain desired results. Course of treatment is also specific to the patient.

Although usually associated with pain relief, acupuncture can treat a wide range of health issues including insomnia, anxiety, depression, menstrual disorders, digestive and urinary issues, mental and nervous system conditions, and much more.

FAQ

Does it hurt?

Acupuncture should not hurt. The needles are hair-thin so most people barely feel them. There can be a sensation of warmth, tingling or heaviness around the area. Some spots are tender or pinchy when the needle is inserted, but this is a split second sensation and typically you don't even feel the needle. Most patients fall asleep during their treatment

Is It Safe?

Acupuncture is very safe when performed by a trained, licensed acupuncturist. We are very knowledgeable about anatomy as well as biomedicine to know when to refer out. The needles are stainless steel, hair-thin, single-use so there is virtually zero chance of infection, bleeding or allergic reaction.

How Many Needles Are Used?

Generally about 10 needles are used during treatment, but it can vary depending on what we are working on

Where Are the Needles Placed?

There are acupuncture points all over the body, but the most common places are the arms and legs. Because we are working with the whole body to get you back in sync, the needles could be placed on a completely different place than where the symptoms are.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

It depends on how long your symptoms have been present for. Typically more acute issues (symptoms present for less than a year) take about 5 to 8 treatments to fully resolve and more chronic issues (present for over an year) take 8 to 12 treatments.

What Can I Expect at My First Session?

We will go in detail about your symptoms and health history, followed by a short physical exam to get a clear picture of the core cause of the issue. After, you will receive an acupuncture treatment. I know that it can be a little nerve wrecking not knowing exactly what to expect, so that first session I will talk you through what is going to happen and no surprises. You can expect to walk out feeling relaxed and with more clarity. This session will last between 1.5 to 2 hours.

What About Follow Up Sessions?

During follow up sessions, we will spend between 5 to 15 minutes talking about how you felt since last session, go over any health counseling and then continue on to a treatment. You may receive acupuncture, cupping and more counseling during this time. These can last between 30 minutes to an hour.

When Will I See a Difference?

Again, it depends on how long you have had your symptoms. Most people start to feel better after their first treatment, but for sure you should see a significant difference after the 4th or 5th treatment.

Will Acupuncture Work on Me?

Typically, the majority of my patients have seen a significant decrease or elimination of their symptoms, but everyone is different. This is why I offer a free consultation so that I can determine a little more clearly if acupuncture is right for you. I truly strive to help my patients feel better, but in the rare case we see treatment is not working, I will recommend another course of treatment outside of my office. But I can say that 99% of my patients have felt some sort of benefit from their treatments, even if the main symptom the came in for did not go away 100%.

How Often Do You Need to Come?

The first two to four weeks, it is important that you do not let more than week go by without treatment. Once we see that your symptoms are stabilizing, we will decrease the frequency until we see that they are not returning. Most patients like returning every month to three months for a tune up.

STEPS THROUGH THE TREATMENT PROCESS

01

Initial Consultation

Half-hour, free of charge session where we go over your case and goals, the treatment process and answer any questions you may have. This is to make certain treatment meets your expectations and that there is a high probability of success for you. I can also give you a better idea of how many treatments you may need.

02

Detailed Intake & Treatment Plan

At the end of the consultation we will decide if we move forward and schedule your full intake appointment (1.5 to 2 hours). This is when we do a detailed assessment of your symptom pattern, medical history and a short physical exam to determine the root cause, which allows me to create a specific treatment plan for you. After this assessment, you will have your first treatment.

03

Active Treatment & Symptom Reduction

You will then return for weekly appointments for roughly 2 to 8 weeks to make sure we are getting results as they relate to your medical condition. Once your symptoms have stabilized we move on to the next step. Although rare, if we have not gotten any relief in your symptoms by the fourth or fifth treatment, we will discuss whether to continue moving forward or to recommend other forms of treatment outside my office.

04

Stabilizing Symptoms & Maintenance

This usually occurs between the 6th and 12th treatment. As long as your symptoms do not creep up between treatments, we can space them farther and farther apart. Initially you will come every other week, then once a month and then whenever you feel you need a tune up or if you have another issue arise in the future. Although, many of my patients wish to continue with ongoing maintenance treatments or for general stress relief.

05

Taking Care of Your Friends & Family

Many of my patients are referred to me by past patients who have felt much better after feeling the true healing of acupuncture and who want their loved ones to also benefit from my work. I look forward to helping your friends, family members and coworkers on their journey to a pain-free, more joyful, prosperful life.
